Online Music Lessons for LA & California Families

Rose Coast Music School teaches guitar, piano, drums, bass, voice and songwriting online, live over video call, to students anywhere in California. It's the same teachers and the same approach as our West LA studio — just from home at your computer. Book a first lesson and we'll match you with a teacher.

Who teaches it

Our online teachers are the same working LA musicians who teach in the studio: Danny Fitch, Sophie Feldman, John McManus, Jess Harper, Trey Cornish and Peter Chase.

What a lesson looks like

Same approach as in-studio: we start with a song the student wants to play, and build technique and reading around it, working toward our twice-a-year recital.

For an online lesson you'll need: a phone, tablet or computer with a camera, a stable internet connection, your own instrument at home, and a quiet, well-lit spot to set up.

Ages and levels

Same range as our in-studio lessons — most students are kids 5 to 14, plus a smaller group of teens and adults. Complete beginners through advanced players.

Pricing

$135/hour, with 30-, 45- and 60-minute options — the same rate as in-studio. A limited sliding scale is available; ask when you book. (Instrument rentals at $40/month are an in-studio option only, since online students use their own equipment at home.)

FAQ

What do I need for an online lesson?

A device with a camera, a stable internet connection, your instrument, and a quiet space to play.

Do online lessons work as well as in-person lessons?

Yes. What makes a lesson work is accountability, not whether you're in the same room — a student who puts in real practice time between lessons improves, whether that lesson happens in our studio or over a screen. Either way, the teacher's job is the same: hold you to the practice, and build on it week to week.

What ages take lessons online?

Most of our online students are kids 5–14, with some teens and adults — the same range as our in-studio program.

Can my child switch between online and in-studio lessons?

Yes. Students can move between online and in-studio as their schedule changes — if a week gets busy or driving to the studio doesn't work, we can meet online instead, and switch back whenever that's easier.

What instruments can be taught online?

All of them — guitar, piano, drums, bass, voice and songwriting all work online. For drums, a practice pad or electronic kit at home works well.

How do I book an online lesson?

Same booking process as in-studio — book a lesson and let us know you'd like to meet online.
